Want a job? Move to North Dakota.

by Maria on June 5, 2011

It’s cold in North Dakota. And it’s rather sparsely populated. But it has the lowest unemployment rate of any State:

The people in ND say the cold is what keeps most people away.  My husband and I thought very carefully about moving there in 2008. We definitely would have if we had known what we’d go through in Raleigh in 2009.

Lessons I’ve Learned from the Recession

August 29, 2010

1. Most of the things that were “needs” to me in 2008 were really only “wants” all along. 2. Everything in life is out of my control. 3. God truly exists. He’s the one who’s really in control and He always has been. 4. Take nothing for granted. Especially medical and dental benefits. After a [...]

Seriously – STOP MOVING TO RALEIGH!!!!

July 21, 2010

I was seriously disheartened to find yet another article – this time on MSN.com – that named Raleigh, NC as one of the best cities in the U.S. to find a job: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Investing/Forbes/10-best-places-for-business-and-careers.aspx I understand that they might have metrics or cool statistics that indicate which cities would be great for someone to maybe “start [...]

Turning Down a Job Offer

June 24, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. That’s mainly because I’ve been working way too many hours. I’m still a temp, unfortunately, and that might go on for quite a while. It feels like I’m being exploited. In my own best interest, that’s all I’ll say. I know it’s best to keep these things [...]

Lost…

May 26, 2010

Is anybody else in shock over that finale? I expected to be disappointed, but what I experienced was well beyond disappointment. While Lost was definitely a character driven show all along, I always considered The Island to be just as much a character as any of the actual people on the show. Yes, I can [...]

Thoughts about “Lost”

May 23, 2010

Tonight is the series finale of “Lost” I’ve been drinking wine and having snacks all afternoon leading up to the big event. Thanks to Netflix and my Nintendo Wii, I can watch seasons 1 to 5 here on my big screen TV and reminisce. Like a lot of people, I watched season 1 and loved [...]

Diets, the CPA exam, interviews, etc.

May 17, 2010

I haven’t had time to blog like I had originally intended. But, thankfully, I took my first part of the CPA exam on Saturday. So some of my time is now free. I felt bad doing anything besides studying for that thing. And still, I didn’t study nearly as much as I should have. I [...]

Has anybody tried the “New Lifestyle Diet”?

May 9, 2010

http://www.newlifestylediet.com/ I’m thinking about trying this diet. I’ve done similar ones in the past and in fact, I just did a liquid diet for a few weeks. I went to a wonderful bariatric physician in Cary, NC (if you live in the area and want to know more, write to me and I’ll send you [...]

Too Many CPA’s in Raleigh, NC

May 5, 2010

I’m an accountant, working on getting my CPA after being out of school for 10 years.  This is only because a lot of unemployed CPA’s have flooded the job market recently, and they are willing to take jobs that I used to be able to get.  I always knew that I could make more money [...]
